Jeroen Verdick – a man whose surname was clearly never designed for the English language – was shaped by comedy from an early age. Always the shortest child in his class, he used humour as a kind of superpower. And it worked! Recognising his talent, his friends even made him a superhero cape by simply pulling his underpants over his head.

What many superheroes foolishly seem to forget is that you can turn those powers into money. In 2016, Jeroen began his career as a stand-up comedian. With two comedy specials, his own comedy TV show, and as co-writer and co-host of the Emmy-winning Did You Get the Message (2018), as well as co-writer of the Emmy-nominated Taboo (2019), he refined his craft.

As in every hero’s life, four years ago tragedy struck: his wife became chronically ill. In  his latest comedy special, Jeroen set out to reveal the horrors of an invisible illness while still making people laugh.

For comedy is the only medicine you can apply to the wound of your choice.
